What makes libraries such an important part of our society?

Let me cite some examples. In 1933 two brothers in California had an idea. They pooled their resources: $5900 and a ramshackle building. They went to their public library and got a recipe for making wine. Ernest and Julio Gallo built that dream into the largest wine producer in the world.

Earlier this year, Dr. Michael DeBakey, the renowned heart surgeon, was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. In his acceptance speech, he told of how his trips to the library as a young boy fueled his curiosity and provided inspiration for his future. How many people are alive today thanks to Dr. DeBakey's pioneering work?

Libraries have a history of making dreams and ideas into realities. They provide the seeds of growth for individuals, communities and the economy, and they nurture great accomplishments. That is why it is so important that we provide an exciting and accessible library facility to serve our residents in the 21st century. Be a part of this important project.
